The 12th edition of the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona will bring together sailing’s finest crews and vessels

  • From 10 to 13 July the most spectacular classic yachts will sail along the shores of the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (RCNB) vying for the title of this unique event which attracts some 500 international competitors annually.
  • This regatta has become an iconic key event on the European classic sailing circuit.

 

The 12th edition of the will once again bring together the world’s most spectacular yachts off the shores of the Catalonian capital from 10 to 13 July.

In keeping with the annual tradition, the most impressive classic yachts from Spain, France, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and the USA will sail to Barcelona to compete in this regatta which attracts more than 500 of the world’s top sailors.

These nautical treasures hold remarkable hidden tales

This competition amongst hundred-year-old yachts offers spectators a unique opportunity to admire up close a collection of nautical masterpieces in motion, laden with fascinating anecdotes, some of which even changed the course of history.

During this event, and for the twelfth time, the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (RCNB) will become a floating museum to the delight of lucky tourists, curious spectators and water sport enthusiasts.  

Barcelona is one of the few cities, along with a few famous enclaves such as Antigua, Newport and Cannes, to host classic yacht regattas. It’s a unique boat show that locals and tourists alike can enjoy from various vantage points around town, from Barceloneta Beach, to the Olympic Harbour and Port Vell.

What’s more, some of the classic yachts that participate every year in the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona Regatta were the pride and joy of eminent VIPs such as Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly as well as the US President John F. Kennedy.

Organised by Puig and the Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (RCNB), this international sporting event is included in the official calendar of the Spanish Royal Sailing Federation (RFEV) and the scores will be counted towards the 2019 Spanish National Championship of Classic and Vintage Yachts and the 9th Trofeo Mare Nostrum.
